1–3 Sept Virtual Summer School at University of Sheffield, Sheffield, UK

News
This summer school will be organised virtually using Blackboard, and hosted by USFD. Both local speakers (Dr. Annette Taylor) and external speakers (Dr. Tamas Bansaji and Dr. Mark Tinsley) will participate in the event. This modeling workshop will involve lectures and interactive group workshops where students will work through problems together using available software. It will also be open tonon-Network members, who registered before the 28th of August. The aims of the sessions are: i) to introduce students to the tools available for modeling chemical reaction networks, ii) to provide insight into how to build reaction network models for certain types of behaviour, iii) to explore methods for finding behaviour, and iv) to give experience in parameter estimation and kinetic data fitting. The topics covered will include: Solving ODEs, integration…

10–12 Dec Workshop at Weizmann Institute of Science, Rehovot, Israel

News
Building Block Synthesis and Characterization This two-day international workshop for CreaNet ESRs is organized by WEIZMANN with contributions to the sessions from Rienk Eelkema, Jan van Esch (TU Delft, the Netherlands), Andreas Walther (ALU-FR, Germany) and Róża Szweda (Łukasiewicz-PORT, Poland). The workshop will cover modern synthesis methods for organic, polymeric, nanoparticle and hybrid inorganic/organic building blocks. It will also discuss important and advanced methods for characterization of such building blocks and nanoscale systems (chromatography, spectroscopy, imaging, scattering, etc.). We will take advantage of WEIZMANN’ advanced characterization facilities (e.g., cryogenic transmission and scanning electron microscopes in the Institute’s Electron Microscopy Unit) to provide the ESRs with hands-on experience in state-of-the-art characterization techniques by Ifat Kaplan-Ashir, Dr. Lothar Houben. As part of the workshop, Klajn (WEIZMANN) will offer an intensive, condensed three-hour…

Interdisciplinary PhD opportunities in Systems Chemistry We are soliciting PhD applications for the interdisciplinary Innovative Training Network (ITN) in the field of Systems Chemistry entitled “Chemical Reaction Networks: Signal amplification, spatiotemporal control, and materials”. CReaNet is an EU-sponsored Marie S. Curie network that will generously fund 15 PhD positions in France, Germany, Israel, UK, Sweden, and Switzerland, starting approximately in September 2019. The long-term scientific goal of CReaNet is to develop biocompatible Chemical Reaction Networks (CRNs) for signal amplification and novel (bio)materials. Research projects range from engineering (enzymatic) reaction networks, mathematical modeling of reaction networks, to nanoparticle assembly, soft matter, and nano-patterning. The 3 or 4 year PhD projects (depending on the host country) will include internships to partner laboratories, and industrial work experience. Exceptional candidates of any nationality are…
